The Seiko 7A28 - like this 1983 Seiko 7A28-7030 "Pogue" here - entered the market during the height of the LCD technology of the 1980s.

In 1983, Seiko unveiled to the world the first ever quartz analog chronograph, the 7A28 - a 15 jewel, fully adjustable quartz movement with zero plastic parts in the gear train and a movement that can be serviced and adjusted as with a mechanical watch, due to its innovative construction.

Seiko and its 7A28 was now in the history books as the world’s first analog quartz movement.  Unlike the more commonplace digital watch, the 7A38 uses hour and minute hands to tell the time akin to analog watches, and feature a quartz crystal working together with a power cell, circuit board, and a small stepping motor to move these hands.  In addition to timekeeping, the quartz crystals also indicated the power reserve or battery life of the watch.

The 7A28 consisted of over forty variations, including models issued to the military and those used in movies (including James Bond and Aliens, among others). Of note, some variations were also issued to the United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defence and the South African Air Force.

This 7A28 Pogue comes on a leather strap, with a nylon strap, hard plastic travel case, and springbar tool.
