Although similar to the famed Seiko 6139 series, the 701x series – of which the 7015-7000 for sale here counts itself a member of – was arguably the more technically advanced of the chronograph movement families. The 7000 has an additional flyback functionality (which allows the user to immediately restart the chronograph without having to first stop and reset, akin to the popular vintage Citizen 8110 bullhead).
Of the several notable variants within the 701x family; of these, the 7000 is more unique in that it features only a central chronograph hand with no additional registers for recording elapsed time. Also of note, the 701x series was the thinnest vertical clutch column wheel chronograph during a portion of the 1970’s, existing from 1970 through ’77. The movement has a diameter of approximately 27mm and is only an astounding 6.4mm tall, which is significantly thinner than the 6139.
Like its Suwa counterpart, the 701x has a central chronograph hand and lacks an active seconds hand. This 7010 comes with its original signed Seiko 5 bracelet, NATO strap, Pelican travel case, and springbar tool.
