The Seiko 5 collection is rife with the best “affordable price point” mechanical watches in the entire watch industry. Unfortunately, many are a bit boring if you're looking for a lively watch.

Seiko's 7S26 automatic movements continue to have a tremendous cult following (in particular, the now discontinued SKX line). And for good reason, the movement is largely bulletproof, and its popularity and ubiquitous nature means affordable maintenance and parts availability for decades and decades to come.
The 7S26 was the logical step in its mechanical movement line, which debuted in 1996 to replace the 7002 in Seiko’s popular dive watch line. It incorporates quickset day and date displays, with automatic bi-directional winding via Seiko’s patented Magic Lever system.
Combine that with the funky “Speed Racer” dial and you have a unique and reliable watch that can handle the rigors of sports activity, while being able to pair well with a tailored suit.
