Many watches came and went during the tumultuous 1970s and 1980s decades, owing largely to the upheaval caused by the Seiko-initiated "Quartz Crisis" - and Monto Cilio is one of them, with its 24k gold 1980s Monteo Cilio "Super Slim" dress watch on offer here.
Some gorgeous watches from the same era produced by the same company have quietly slipped under the radar for the simple reason the companies that made them are no longer around. The design on the Super Slim here is classic and simple, easily able to slip under the cuff of a tailored suit.
And it’s a shame, because many of these watches feature exquisite details – the Super Slim lives up to its name, at a svelte approx. 6.5 millimeters. Couple that with the watch's textured, hammered 24k gold dial and the dial's minimalist design esthetic (with slim breguet-style numeric hour markers), slim baton minute and hour sands with no seconds hand, and you have a handsome dress watch ready for a night out.
Monte Celio was a vintage boutique watch brand primarily distributed in Japan, Thailand, and select Asian markets during the late 1980s and 1990s. The company focused on producing affordable luxury quartz watches that emulated the look of high-end Swiss ingot/pure gold luxury pieces - readily apparent in the Super Slim here.
This vintage gold watch comes on a black leather strap, and with a nylon strap, rugged travel case, and springbar tool.
